Review Of America’s #1 Selling Acne Treatment

What is Proactiv?

Proactiv is the most popular acne treatment to hit the market, relying partly on celebrity endorsements from celebrities like Jessica Simpson, Vanessa Williams, and Jennifer Love Hewitt. They claim to clear all cases of acne as the “#1 acne system in the world”, and they have expanded from their original 3 piece kit to several other extra moisturizers, sunscreens, and other complimentary pieces. They are currently the acne product with the most imitators and for that matter, they have become a household name among all American homes in general terms. They even have vending machines in local malls to sell their product.

History of Proactiv

Proactiv was originally created by two dermatologists who claimed that they wanted to bring prescription like effectiveness to the over the counter market in a 3 piece kit. They provided users with a scrub, toner, and moisturizer, and due in part to the original support of Jessica Simpson in particular, Proactiv has exploded in popularity. They advertised mostly through infomercials in the beginning, which they continue to do. Their main claim is that being produced by dermatologists, they got sick of the same old same old with many prescriptions and accordingly decided to create something different.

Benefits

The only active acne fighting ingredient in Proactiv is known as benzoyl peroxide. It is often used in prescriptions. But it has also been used in many different over the counter products before and since Proactiv. It works its way into the pores killing all bacteria. However, despite the fact that benzoyl peroxide is effective for a large portion of the population, there is also a significant portion of the population that does not respond to it at all.

Side Effects

Despite the fact that Proactiv has tried to counteract the negative side effects of benzoyl peroxide mostly with moisturizers, they have failed to come through. Users have reported dry, red, itchy, peeling, damaged skin, and skin that is extremely sensitive to the sun when using this product. However, many do not report cessation in their acne.

Conclusion

Proactiv uses an extremely common approach to acne treatment. But people are more likely to buy it, because it was supposedly developed by dermatologists. It comes with quite a few side effects and all too often, no real benefits. There are plenty of cheap clones, but why not just find something all together better?
